Single Stream Pilot Projects

Yale University is conducting several pilot projects to see how single stream recycling would affect recycling rates and campus operations.   Locations for outdoor tests are Woolsey Hall main entrance, Hewitt Quadrangle ("Beinecke Plaza") and the new Health Center at 55 Lock Street.  Locations for indoor tests are Yale University Press, Rudd Center and, beginning in February, Divinity North.

Single Stream recycling allows for cans, bottles and other glass, plastic and metal containers to be commingled with paper.  The consolidation of all recycling into one bin typically results in higher participation rates, increased tonnages and greater collection efficiencies.   We are hoping to see these benefits in our tests.
